In the News

Warning on the burden of caring

A survey, published on June 13th, revealed that 92% of carers in Scotland wanted their GP to highlight in their medical records that they are carers, but only 32% of carers have been asked by GPs if they care for someone. Two thirds of carers feel their own health has suffered as a result of their caring role. Paul Matz, Carers Week manager, said: "The NHS should invest a little now in helping Scottish carers look after their health rather than risk them not being well enough to care - the impact on the NHS could be overwhelming".

Physical depression ailments ignored

A survey by Depression Alliance in England found that although most people with depression have physical problems, only a few will discuss these with their doctor. A previous survey had found that of those who did discuss their physical symptoms with their doctor, almost half said that their doctor did not explain that these can be symptoms of depression.
